The Service Connection |
| |
| Greetings
LASP alumnus. Some LASPers have expressed a desire to return
and serve in Latin America. LASP has assembled a variety of
possible opportunities. Some may utilize your degree, but each
should give you the opportunity to expand your Latin American
experience. Length of commitment varies from short to long term.
|
| |
Each
organization below has some sort of relationship with LASP.
We would like to link these organizations with dedicated, hard
working, and well-informed individuals as well as provide you,
the alumnus, with opportunities that may relate to your specific
interest. We’ve provided a very brief description, contact
info, etc. on each (see below). If any of these options are
of interest to you don’t hesitate to use the contact information.
As The Connection we’d of course be pleased
to provide references when called for. Service is central to
the Kingdom and more often than not returns more than is given.
Our desire is to be of assistance in appropriate ways. If you
have any ideas for other organizations that you would like to
see on The Connection please pass the information
along to us. Blessings.

Project
Abraham is right now in the middle of constructing 3 children’s
homes, a daycare center and cafeteria combination, and
multi-purpose building, which will serve as a sanctuary
and gymnasium. With on and off again construction they
hope to have the project complete by the beginning of
2005. Once the construction is complete they will begin
developing specific programs for the children who will
be living in the homes on site and also for those who
live in the surrounding community. They will be seeking
teachers, therapists, psychologists, administrators and
anyone else with a giving heart that wants to serve. |

Campamento
Roblealto is a Christian ministry catering to children
and young adults. The 45-acre piece of property has been
transformed over the years into a wilderness playground
for young people. Children of all ages are able to come
and enjoy a week or weekend of fun filled activity with
a spiritual emphasis. If you love spending time outdoors
the beauty of this place will overwhelm you. So, if you
don’t mind getting your hands a little dirty Campamento
Roblealto could use your help. They are looking specifically
for maintenance and labor workers to take care of things
on the property. Also, if you have an advanced level of
Spanish and would be interested in being a camp counselor
this option is available as well. |

Colegio
Vida y Verdad (Life and Truth School) de Caranavi, Bolivia
is a K-12 Christian school for Bolivian nationals begun
by American missionaries in 1988. It now serves 400 students
and has 34 Bolivians on staff. The school seeks to educate
children from Caranavi (both Christian and non-Christian)
using Biblical principles, taught by teachers who are
called by God and equipped to use Biblical principles
in their curriculum. They seek to give these rural students
an education of excellence while at the same time evangelizing
and building Christian character. As a long-term result,
they seek to influence the Bolivian society in all realms
to ultimately "change a generation to change the
nation."
They have opportunities for expatriates in the following
capacities:
1.
Teaching English to Spanish-speaking Jr/Sr High
students.
|
2.
Further developing their ongoing teacher-training
program for the Bolivian teachers on staff.
|
3.
Developing principle-based curriculum in coordination
with local teachers for any grade (1-12).
|
4.
Working with youth in the school in evangelism and
discipleship.
|
5.
Teaching basic computer skills and maintaining computer
lab/vocational education in computer operation.
|
6.
Building project manager for the construction of
new campus infrastructure.
If anyone is interested in opportunities for involvement
in national Christian education and developing Christian
educators, David would love to contact them. As
a proud alumnus of LASP, he’d love to get
them involved in what God's doing in Caranavi, Bolivia!

Roblealto |
|
|
|
|
|
San
José, Costa Rica |
|
|
Roblealto
is an association dedicated to the well being of children.
Not only do they meet the needs of physical health, psychological
assistance and spiritual support for the children but
also they go beyond that to the needs of the family. Roblealto
has 3 daycare centers set up around the San Jose area
that all together serve over 420 children and their families.
These centers serve the children in the surrounding area
who don’t necessarily need to be separated from
their families but have major needs that must be met.
For those children who do need to be separated from their
families there is a campus set up with 8 children’s
homes each with 10 children and a set of houseparents.
They all attend the school there that specializes in teaching
children with learning problems as well as emotional problems.
The goal here is to educate the child and the family in
order to create a more stable family environment so the
child can return home. In addition to this Roblealto has
workshops and psychologists on hand for all members of
the family and encourage them in their efforts to improve
the quality of life. They are seeking nurses, coordinators
for Christian programs, computer programmers, recreation
leaders, laborers and any self-starter with a passion
to serve.

Agua
Viva Para Niños |
|

Everilda
Tzirin, Director |
|
|
Guatemala
City, Guatemala |
|
|
Agua
Viva is a home for children referred by the courts because
of problems in the home. Currently there are 73 children
in the home. They are looking for an ESL teacher for grades
K-6 and aid to the spiritual leader. The intern/volunteer
must demonstrate Spanish proficiency, have a firm theological
and Biblical foundation, and the ability to teach ESL.
The idea for this position originated from observed and
spoken needs of the home. The teaching of English at its
primary school is currently very unstable because of lack
of a permanent teacher. English would be an important
life skill and self-esteem builder for the children of
Agua Viva. |
|
|
LASP
has sent students to Agua Viva each semester for the past
several years. The Spring 2005 students along with Agua
Viva came up with the request for an intern at this site.
LASP is committing $250 each semester to any LASP volunteer
that takes on this position. |
